Volusia County middle school and high school student-athletes will be offered free electrocardiogram (ECG) screenings for the first time this summer in addition to the annual state-required sports physical.
Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death among high school athletes, with an estimate of 1 in 300 student-athletes having an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk.
The goal of the screenings, approved Tuesday by the Volusia County School Board in partnership with AdventHealth, is early detection and treatment of heart abnormalities.

The Deltona Wolves escaped a late comeback from the Matanzas Pirates in the top of the seventh to maintain an 8-4 win in their quarter-final matchup of the 2021 FHSAA Baseball District Tournament on Monday night, April 26, 2021. Deltona Sophomore Hayden Wright lit up the night with 3 RBIs and 1 run in his three appearances at the plate, and Junior Johnnie Lopez led the team with 2 runs and 1 RBI in his three at-bats.
Trailing 8-1 in the seventh, the Pirates pushed through 3 late runs in the seventh but couldn’t overtake the Wolves' lead and ultimately end their season with an 8-4 loss.

The Lady Buccaneers softball team fell hard to the Lady Eagles 8-1 Thursday, March 18, at Mainland’s Daytona Beach home base.
The Deltona Eagles launched into the first inning with 3 runs scored by Veronica Puckett, Mackenzie Morasse and Reilley Oglageo. In the bottom of the first, Mainland had back-to-back fly balls to the Eagles’ right fielder resulting in two outs.

The Deltona High School Boys Basketball team hosted DeLand on Monday, January 11, 2021. The DeLand Bulldogs came ready to play. From the start the game was dominated by the the Bulldog’s junior shooting guard, Noah Van Bibber (#5), who scored 20 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 3 steals and 3 blocks.

The Father Lopez Boys Basketball team hosted Deltona on Monday, January 4, 2021. The Deltona Wolves were led in scoring by two seniors Elijah Lafond who scored 22 points, and Connor Chancey who scored 18 points, including five 3 pointers. Lafond also led the team in rebounds with 7, and the Wolves beat the Father Lopez Wave 51 to 48.

Deltona defeated Tampa Freedom, 19-13, in a Region 2-6A play-in game.
