The Seminoles squared off and scored often at home against the Mainland Buccaneers in this edition of Flashback Friday Football. The Seminoles played a strong ground game spread across multiple players for 214 rushing yards in this matchup. The Seminoles started strong with back-to-back touchdowns in the first quarter to quickly put them up 14-0.

Sanford Seminole four-year starting quarterback Timmy McClain was asked to do a little bit of everything during his swan-song season. The lone returning starter on offense entering his senior year, McClain rose to the occasion as both a passer and rusher while leading his team to the Class 8A state championship during an unbeaten 12-0 run. “We found different ways to beat teams throughout the season, and for Timmy to do what’s best for the team and kind of mold with us along the way says a lot about his skill set and mental fortitude,” said Seminole coach Eric Lodge.

Sanford Seminole’s Eric Lodge hit the high school football trifecta in his first season as a head coach. Lodge, 31, was named overall Florida Dairy Farmers football coach-of-the-year Wednesday morning. The honor comes on the heels of an undefeated regular season that concluded with a Class 8A state championship.

Two weeks ago, after early National Signing Day when quarterback Timmy McClain of Class 8A state champ Seminole signed with USF, many wondered who would be the new Seminoles’ quarterback. The answer may have enrolled Monday at the Sanford school. Record-breaking Oviedo sophomore Luke Rucker has transferred to Seminole High.

Unconquered and undisputed. That is the way the 2020 Sanford Seminole football team forever will be remembered. The resilient Seminoles (12-0) became the first undefeated state championship football team in Orlando area history Saturday afternoon by rolling to a 38-10 victory over Kissimmee Osceola in the Class 8A final.
