The DeLand Boys Basketball team faced Spruce Creek on Friday, Feb. 11, for the 7A District 2 final, and won the game by a score of 50-43. The teams started out evenly, but DeLand played a strong second quarter, led by 3 threes from senior shooting guard Trayvon Barbary (#2).

A little halftime adjustment made a big difference Friday night.
Trailing East Lake 22-19 at the break, Alonso coach Todd Price decided to move Jasen Stovall from the corners to the top of the key to combat the Eagles’ 1-3-1 zone and get the senior shooter into space.
Stovall responded by draining six of his seven 3-pointers in the second half, leading the Ravens to a 60-38 Class 7A District 6 championship game win.

The 2022 FHSAA boys basketball brackets are set and Hillsborough County is rolling into the postseason strong.
Sixteen schools are preparing for first-round games Thursday, including eight hosting as district champions.
Staying home will be Alonso (Class 7A Region 2), Newsome (7A-2), Wharton (6A-3), Bloomingdale (6A-3), Gaither (6A-3), King (5A-2), Tampa Catholic (3A-2) and Cambridge Christian (2A-3).

When a basketball team can shoot — and I mean really shoot — it grabs my attention.
It's a skill that translates against most any opponent. Sure, tight man-to-man defense can bother some shooters, and it's always better to be wide open (and have more time) than not, but for the most part, if you can hit threes against one team, you can hit them against any team.
